Cougars Come Up Just Short in Season Finale at Feather River

Lassen College closed out the 2025 softball season with a narrow 3–2 road loss to Feather River on April 23. The Cougars mounted a late push in the sixth inning, scoring twice to cut the deficit to one, but were ultimately unable to bring the tying run across in the seventh. The defeat ended a season marked by perseverance and development for a young Lassen squad.

Feather River took control midway through the game, scoring once in the third and adding two more in the fifth to build a 3–0 lead. Olivia Nanez led the Golden Eagles with two hits, including an RBI double, while Emma Robles chipped in with a run-scoring groundout. Lassen starting pitcher Anndria Kay allowed three earned runs over five innings, and Abby Lynn pitched a scoreless sixth in relief to keep her team within reach.

The Cougars responded with grit in the sixth, as Shea Jones and Alyssa McOmie each drove in runs on productive groundouts. Cambree Prescott led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Emma Wayas, Andie Wood, and Taylor Lauritsen each added hits. Despite putting together a quality offensive frame and holding Feather River scoreless in the final inning, Lassen couldn't complete the comeback in its final at-bat.

The game served as a fitting end to a competitive season for Lassen, who showed steady progress and growth throughout the year. While the Cougars came up short on the scoreboard, their fight and energy highlighted a foundation for future success. With a returning core of young talent, the program will look to build on these lessons and return stronger for the 2026 campaign.
