Bio

Will Freedman has been a dedicated member of the Lassen College men’s basketball coaching staff since July 2014. With over a decade of experience at both the high school and collegiate levels, he brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and passion to the Cougar program. Prior to his time at Lassen, he served as an assistant varsity coach at Santa Monica High School from 2012 to 2014, where he helped lead the team to a CIF Division I Southern Section Championship and a SoCal Regional Championship in 2013.

Throughout his tenure at Lassen, Coach has guided the Cougars to four 3C2A playoff appearances and helped orchestrate major upsets, including multiple wins over top-10 ranked opponents and two victories over the #1 team in Northern California. In recognition of his leadership and impact, he was named to the “40 Under 40” list by Cal State University East Bay. Over 40 players under his guidance have gone on to play at the next level, a testament to his commitment to player development.

A former standout student-athlete himself, he played collegiate basketball at CSU East Bay, where he earned Cal Pac Freshman of the Year honors in 2007 and was a 2009 Cal Pac Conference Champion. He graduated in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in finance and a minor in economics. He later earned two master’s degrees from Concordia University Irvine — one in Coaching and Athletic Administration and another in Exercise Science. His playing career also includes time as a professional in Israel and winning a gold medal representing Team USA at the 2011 Maccabi Pan American Games.

Off the court, Coach is deeply committed to community service. His efforts include organizing Frightmare Forest from 2014 to 2017, helping with annual veterans’ breakfasts, participating in school crosswalk duty, ringing bells for the Salvation Army, volunteering at the Courage Triathlon to combat human trafficking, hosting youth carnivals and camps, sponsoring youth sports, and raising awareness for mental health through “Walk a Mile” events.

He married Makenzie Davis in 2021, and together they welcomed their daughter, Audrey, in 2024. Coach remains focused on fostering excellence both on and off the court — empowering student-athletes to grow as leaders, competitors, and contributors to the community.
