Lassen Dominates Redwoods in 18-8 Win
Lassen College exploded for 18 runs on 10 hits to defeat Redwoods 18-8 in a high-scoring matchup on March 29. The Cougars put up three runs in the first inning and never looked back, scoring in five of their seven offensive frames. Rominic Quiban set the tone with two doubles and three RBIs, while Mitchell Basterrechea launched a home run as part of his three-RBI performance.
A massive eight-run third inning put the game out of reach early, as Lassen capitalized on walks and clutch hitting to extend its lead to 14-1. Jack Zimmerman and Ethan Beede each drove in multiple runs, while Logan Cadenhead added two RBIs of his own. The Redwoods pitching staff struggled to find the zone, issuing 11 walks, including six in a disastrous third inning.
On the mound, Kyson Goates delivered a strong performance for Lassen, allowing just one earned run over 5.2 innings while striking out seven. Harper Wilson and Gabriel Smitherman combined to finish the game, though Redwoods managed to score late, including a seventh-inning home run by Bode Joyner. Despite the late surge, Lassen's early dominance proved insurmountable.
With the victory, Lassen continues its offensive hot streak, showing its ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities and put pressure on opposing pitchers. The Cougars will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup as conference play heats up.
