Cougars Battle to the End in High-Scoring Duel Against Feather River
The Lassen College baseball team showed serious heart and offensive firepower in a 12-8 slugfest against Feather River on April 19. Though the Cougars ultimately came up short, they gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about, racking up 11 hits, including a towering home run from shortstop Kylan Kono and two doubles from Jack Zimmerman, who stayed hot at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance.
Lassen trailed 8-3 midway through the fifth but mounted an impressive rally to cut the deficit to just one. Ethan Beede roped a two-run double to spark a four-run fifth inning, and the Cougars continued to apply pressure with disciplined at-bats and timely situational hitting. Kono's two-run homer and Eli Hernandez's sacrifice fly showed the team's ability to convert scoring opportunities.
Despite the loss, the Cougars showed grit on defense and resilience on the mound as seven pitchers combined to limit further damage in the final frames. Noah Kimura and Teigan Scott closed the game with strong relief work, holding Feather River scoreless in the ninth to give Lassen a chance to claw back.
The Cougars' offensive balance and depth were evident up and down the lineup, with six players driving in runs and several multi-hit performances.
