Bio

Avilla enters his 11th season with the Lassen baseball program, his 10th as head coach. The Cougars have improved every year under Coach Avilla. In the last three years, his team has averaged an impressive 20 wins, a playoff berth, several All-Conference selections, multiple conference MVPs, All-Northern selections, as well as All-State selections. They competed for the GVC Championship until late in all three seasons. Those years also included a free agent signing, over 30 athletic scholarship recipients with four to D-1 universities. During his career here, Avilla has produced more than 50 All-Conference players.

Avilla has won two Golden Valley Coach of the Year awards. Coach Frank has created a solid foundation for his players, preparing them socially, academically, and athletically for life on their own. He has never had a player academically ineligible and has provided the opportunity for 100 percent of his players to move on.

Avilla was born and raised in Sparks, Nevada. He graduated from Reed High School. After graduation, Frank attended Neosho County Community College and Yuba College. At Yuba, he achieved All-Conference and was named team captain in his sophomore year. He was top 30 in hitting in the state and received his AA degree before transferring to Oklahoma Baptist University on a baseball scholarship. He played for Hall of Fame Coach Bobby Cox. His junior he hit .381 and hit .330 his senior year. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Sports Management. Avilla received his Master's Degree in Exercise Science at Concordia University - Chicago.

He is the son of Frank and Kristin Avilla and has four siblings. In August of 2013, he married the former Terra Shoupe. Terra is a police officer for the City of Susanville. Frank and Terra have two daughters, Anna Lynne aka “The Peach” and Elena Pearl. They are expecting their third child in the fall of 2021.
