Rodeo opens spring season with strong performances

Last weekend, the Lassen College men's rodeo team competed this at the Fresno Regional Rodeo in Clovis, California. Seven teams competed including Lassen's conference rival Feather River, Cuesta, West Hills, as well as host Fresno State, and other D-1s, Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo and UNLV. Lassen took sixth place with 140 points and Feather led the pack in standings with 610 points.

To lead off the weekend, sophomore Tristan Naccarato placed fifth in the first round of the saddle bronc riding and making it back to the short round. Unfortunately he was bucked off in the short round but managed to hold onto his fifth place in the average.

Ray Mayo also had a good weekend being the only individual to cover a bull in the bull riding event, taking home both the round win and the average win. With this win Ray solidifies his spot at the College National Finals this June in Casper, Wyoming.

" I am glad the first rodeo nerves are out of the way," said Head Coach Dan Williams. "We already have one athlete making it to college finals and now we are going to work on sending the whole team. Our team closed out the first rodeo with their heads held high and goals to work on before the next rodeo."

This was the first rodeo of the spring 2022 season. The team travels to West Hills College in two weeks.
