Cougars make run for playoff berth

Beautiful weather conditions and a quick goal in the 21st minute gave the Lassen men's soccer an edge after a long drive to the coast to face the College of the Redwoods on Tuesday (Nov. 2). The Cougars were pulled out a 4-1 victory against the host Corsairs in Eureka.

Th opening score in the 21st minute by Lassen was assisted from a wonderfully timed cross that Matias Montero delivered into College of the Redwoods penalty area, putting the Cougars up 1-0, midway through the first half.

Lahouara would go on to score two more goals in the first half assisted by Caik Silva and Tom Pechaudra, solidifying a 3-0 lead at the end of the first half.

As the second half began, the Cougars came out with great energy and confidence as they began their quest to dominate the last 45 minutes of the match. The Cougars repeatedly found the back of the net through Matias Montero from a clever pass by Louis Cougolou in the 65th minute mark.

The win increases Lassen chances of making it to the playoffs.

"Today was an important match with great upside of us being able to compete in the post-season" stated Head Coach Alex Machin. "We played great soccer and showed our talent on the pitch today. Now it's about getting recovered and focusing on our next match."

Lassen face the Eagles of Siskiyous on Thursday, November 4 at 12 pm as they hope to continue their winning streak and make a strong effort towards obtaining a playoff position as their season draws to a close.
