Lassen Tie Against Lake Tahoe

Lassen men's soccer team faced a conference showdown at home against the Lake Tahoe on Tuesday November 9, resulting in a 1-1 tie.

The last time these two teams met was in Lake Tahoe and ended in a nil-nil draw. Both teams were eager to get a win and show their dominance over the other side.

Lassen came out of the gate firing on all cylinders as they controlled possession of the ball and created numerous goal scoring opportunities. Late in the first half, Cougar right back Tomas Ulla hit a thunderous first time shot from 30 yards out forcing a fingertip save from the Coyotes goalkeeper.

The second half began 0-0 as the focus and intensity grew larger from both sides knowing the importance of a conference victory.

In the 80th minute, the Cougars had a breakaway on the left flank and were able to cross the ball through Mouncef Lahoura to an awaiting Caik Silva for a wondrous right-footed volley tucked into the top corner of the net.

Moments later, Lake Tahoe were awarded a corner kick that was struck towards to near post of the Lassen goal. A mistake in communication by the Cougars defense allowed the ball to travel across the face of goal and end up at the far post for an easy tap-in by the Coyotes – tying the game 1-1.

In the 91st minute Lassen was awarded a free kick in a dangerous spot that was 25 yards from goal. Midfielder Marcos Paiz struck a beautifully curled shot at the upper left side of the goal that was denied by inches as it struck the cross bar and deflected over the net.

The match ended as a 1-1 draw denying both teams a chance to show their superiority this season.

"Lake Tahoe has a great side" stated Head Coach Alex Machin. "They are well coached and have talented players. Today was unlucky not to come away with a victory, but that's how the game goes sometimes. We're excited to face them again next season."

The Cougars have their final match of the season at 12 pm on Friday November 12 as they take on the Roadrunners of Butte College at home.
