Cougars fall to Shasta in the opening game of the doubleheader

Lassen College Softball hosted Shasta College on Friday, April 2, for a doubleheader and the first two of the final four games of the season. In game 1, the Lady Cougars fell to Shasta 8-2. Lassen would take an early 2-1 lead after three innings. Unfortunately, the Lady Cougars would commit three errors in the fourth inning, giving up five unearned runs. That is all Shasta would need to put away the Cougars with a final score of 8-2.

Reno native Bri Wheelen pitched for the Cougars, going seven innings, giving up eight runs, ten hits, three walks, and striking out four. Bree Lopez, Raegan Brown, Michaelyn Shirley, and Joycelyn Lewis would all have a one-hit game for the Cougars.  

“We let our energy and focus drop, and that is what cost us the game,” said Head Coach Colby Chavez.

The Lady Cougars are 5-28.
