Cougars take care of Shasta at home

Game two of the doubleheader saw Lassen take the early lead in the second inning, 2-0. Shasta would respond in the top of the third inning with four runs of their own to bring the score to 4-2. The Lady Cougars woke up on offense scoring seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to lead 9-4. That would be all of the insurance Lassen needed as they would go on to win the game 9-5.

Susanville local Michaelyn Shirley got the start and the win in the circle for the Lady Cougars. Shirley pitched seven innings, giving up two earned runs, four hits, three walks, and striking out two. Joycelyn Lewis led the Cougar offense with three hits and one RBI. Michaelyn Shirley and Mireya Rosas contributed on the offensive end with two hits of their own. Rosas had two triples in the game. Allison Deaton, Bree Lopez, Raegan Brown, and Bri Wheelen would all record a hit as well.

“It was great to see us fight back and put up seven runs after giving up four the half inning before. It feels good to get that first conference win,” said Head Coach Colby Chavez.

 The Lady Cougars are 6-28.

Lassen will be back at home on Saturday, April 22, taking on College of The Redwoods for the final two games of the season. Saturday is also parent day and sophomore day.
