Lassen drops opening game to Redwoods

Lassen College Softball hosted College of The Redwoods on Saturday, April 22, for a doubleheader for the final two games of the season. Before the game, the Lady Cougars recognized their three sophomores: Reagan Brown, Bree Lopez, and Skyler Curwen, for their commitment to the program and for exemplifying what it means to be a vital part of the Cougar softball program.  In game 1, the Lady Cougars fell to Redwoods 17-3. Lassen fell into an early 6-0 deficit. The Lady Cougars responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, bringing the score to 6-3. Redwoods would then put the game away in the top of the sixth inning scoring 11 runs and making the final score 17-3.

Reno native Bri Wheelen pitched for the Cougars, going six innings, giving up 11 earned runs, 19 hits, four walks, and striking out three. Sophomore Bree Lopez would have a two-hit game for the Cougars with a double and a triple. Allison Deaton, Raegan Brown, Skyler Curwen, Julie Polanco, and Bri Wheelen would all have a hit each.

“We didn’t stop the bleeding in the sixth, which unfortunately gave them 11 runs. We struggled to pick each other up when we needed it most,” said Head Coach Colby Chavez.

The Lady Cougars are 6-29.
