Lassen Holds Off Shasta to Secure 8-5 Victory
Lassen College wrapped up its series against Shasta with an 8-5 win on Saturday, overcoming an early deficit and holding off a late push from the Knights. Shasta struck first with two runs in the opening inning and added another in the second, but Lassen responded quickly. The Cougars tied the game at 3-3 by the third inning before taking control with a three-run fourth. Despite defensive struggles that led to five errors, Lassen’s offense provided enough firepower to secure the win.
Taylor Lauritsen led the charge, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two walks, while Lexi Gonzalez added a key triple and drove in two runs. Abby Robles and Abby Lynn also contributed RBIs, helping Lassen build an 8-3 lead heading into the sixth. Shasta made one last push, scoring a run in both the sixth and seventh innings, but Lassen pitcher Anndria Kay remained steady, scattering nine hits over seven innings while striking out four.
Shasta’s offense was led by Joci Bertain, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Natalie Bell and Emma Tenney each knocked in a run. The Knights had chances to capitalize on Lassen’s errors but struggled to string together hits when needed. Pitcher Bailey Weibling took the loss, allowing six earned runs over five innings.
With the victory, Lassen finishes the series 3-0 against Shasta, demonstrating both offensive depth and resilience.
