Bio

Colby Chavez is returning to his alma mater to begin his first season as head coach for the Lassen College softball team.

Raised in Susanville, Chavez played two years for the Cougar baseball team (2013-2015) and earned his Associate's degree in Social Sciences from Lassen Community College. Upon graduating Lassen College, Chavez received a scholarship to continue his academic and athletic career at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. After finishing his playing career, Chavez completed his schooling at California State University, Chico receiving both his Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology and his Master’s Degree in Kinesiology.

As a collegiate baseball player, Chavez was named First Team All-Conference in the Golden Valley Conference at Lassen. Chavez was also an All-State Academic member for both the 2014 and 2015 seasons at Lassen. As a member of the baseball team at Northeastern State University, Chavez helped lead his team to the conference tournament and a 30-win season.

Following his playing career, Chavez immediately jumped into coaching at both the youth and collegiate levels. In 2018, Chavez was an Assistant Strength and Conditioning coach for the University of California, Berkeley assisting with the football team and its strength and conditioning staff. After his tenure with Berkeley, Chavez began coaching at Chico Aces Baseball Academy in Chico, CA coaching youth the skills and fundamentals of baseball. In 2019, Chavez also coached the Club Baseball team at California State University, Chico leading them to the regional tournament where they fell short of reaching the club baseball world series. In 2021 Chavez began his coaching stent at D-BAT Norco a Baseball and Softball Academy in Windsor, Colorado. While in Colorado, Chavez was hired as the infield coach for the Northern Colorado Owlz; a professional Independent baseball program.
