Lady Cougs drop conference opener

The Lassen Cougars faced a difficult road matchup against Siskiyous on January 8, 2025, falling 82-49. The Cougars struggled to find their rhythm early, scoring just 9 points in each of the first two quarters, which allowed Siskiyous to build a commanding 29-9 lead in the opening frame. Despite a strong 24-point effort in the third quarter, the Cougars were unable to sustain momentum, as Siskiyous sealed the game with a dominant fourth-quarter performance. Shalaya Barraza led Lassen with 14 points, including three three-pointers, while Mallory Thompson and Nadi Velazquez each added 8 points. However, the team shot just 26.7% from the field and committed 20 turnovers, making it difficult to keep pace.

Siskiyous delivered a well-rounded performance, shooting over 50% from the field and dominating the boards with a 45-22 rebounding advantage. Their standout player, Alexes Collier, poured in 27 points, hitting six three-pointers to stretch Lassen's defense. Tatum Allen also contributed 21 points, while Samantha Freitas added 6 points and a game-high 9 rebounds. The Cougars will look to regroup after this tough loss as they aim to improve their execution and consistency in their upcoming games.
