Young Squad Finishes 2017 in Strong Fashion
The Lady Cougars competed hard throughout the 2017 campaign, starting the season looking to gain quick experience for the young squad, and building upon that experience which ultimately helped them to a .500 record in their four final matches.
In addition to winning their final home game, the Cougars were able to transfer all of their sophomores to a variety of Division I, II, and NAIA schools on scholarship. In what was a rebuilding season having graduated twelve champions last spring, the Cougars defended well as a unit and showed moments of brilliance in the final third of the pitch.
Just as the team's form progressed over the course of the season, so too did their chemistry and understanding. Lassen finished the Golden Valley Conference with a 3-9 record, and 5-14-1 overall.
"The women enhanced their ability to recognize each other's strengths and qualities while learning to prioritize the team over any one individual," said Head Coach Imaan Kerchgani.
The Cougars demonstrated their character, staying resolute and persistent in the face of adversity while earning GVC All-Conference honors for both Emily Upstone and Brenna Mendonca. The foundation for Lassen's Women's soccer program is strong and with the large incoming class of 2018, the Lady Cougars are intent on returning to the top flight.
