Butte Outmuscles Lady Cougars in Conference Opener

The Lady Cougars suffered a devastating 5-1 home defeat against Butte College on Tuesday. Butte College, one of the top teams in the Golden Valley Conference, started the game with high intensity and tempo, scoring two early goals.

During the first 45 minutes, the Lady Cougars could not contain the physicality and pressure of their opponents and ended the half 2-0 down.

During the second half, Lassen regained momentum by pressuring the Lady Roadrunners and obtained a penalty kick at the 50th minute. Lassen Striker Britany Anderson finished successfully, reducing the score margin to 2-1. The Lady Cougars continued to press hard and got another goal at the 75thminute. The goal was denied by the referee, claiming that an offensive foul had been committed.

Meanwhile, the Cougar players incurred many injuries that disrupted their playing style. Butte reorganized, taking advantage of the Lassen's injuries and scored three goals. Butte also squandered many opportunities, thanks to Goalkeeper Allee Vincent who made five saves.

"This experience was humbling," said Head Coach Jude Niba. "But we will come back stronger in subsequent games when we improve our endurance."
